Slow Cooker French Onion Steak

Description

A comforting slow-cooked round steak with the flavors of French onion soup.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs round steak
  • 1 medium yellow onion (thinly sliced)
  • 8 oz mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix (dry)
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
  • fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Add half of the onions and mushrooms into the bottom of a 6-quart or larger slow cooker.
  2. Season both sides of the steaks with the dry French onion soup mix and black pepper and place into the slow cooker.
  3. Add the remaining onions and mushrooms on top of the steaks.
  4. Pour the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce around the steaks (not directly on top to avoid washing off seasonings). Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours, or until the meat is tender and cooked through.
  5. Once the cooking time is complete, prepare the thickening mixture. Add ⅓ cup of hot broth from the slow cooker into a small bowl with the cornstarch and whisk until smooth. Pour back into the crockpot and stir to combine.
  6. Cook uncovered for 15-20 minutes on high, or until the sauce has thickened to your liking. Adjust with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot over mashed potatoes or rice.
