Description

A rich and flavorful coffee syrup perfect for sweetening drinks or drizzling over desserts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. BREW THE COFFEE: Brew 1 cup of strong coffee using a drip machine, French press, or pour-over method. Increase the amount of coffee grounds slightly so the final syrup keeps a clear coffee flavor after reduction.
  2. COMBINE THE INGREDIENTS: Pour the hot brewed coffee into a small saucepan. Add the granulated sugar and the pinch of salt. Stir gently so the sugar begins dissolving into the liquid.
  3. HEAT AND DISSOLVE: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until the sugar fully dissolves into the coffee. The mixture should become smooth and glossy with no visible sugar crystals.
  4. SIMMER THE SYRUP: Reduce the heat to low once the sugar dissolves. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally. The liquid will reduce slightly and thicken as water evaporates.
  5. ADD THE VANILLA: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated. The vanilla softens the roasted coffee flavor and adds aroma.
  6. COOL AND STORE: Allow the syrup to cool completely at room temperature. The syrup will thicken further as it cools. Transfer to a sterilized glass jar or bottle with a tight-fitting lid and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 to 3 months.
